After scoring 4,301 runs from 116 innings in Tests, including 12 centuries and 18 fifties, Indian cricket team's skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday announced his retirement from the longest format of the game.
Announcing his retirement on Instagram, 38-year-old Rohit Sharma wrote, “Hello everyone, I would just like to share, I am retiring from Test cricket. It's been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in ODI format.”
Rohit Sharma last played a Test match in December 2024 during the fourth game in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Melbourne. He had dropped himself from the fifth Test in Sydney owing to poor form.
After taking over the reins from Virat Kohli in 2022, Rohit led the national team in 24 Tests, in which India won in 12 Tests and lost nine. Despite qualifying for the World Test Championship final in 2023 under Rohit's captaincy, India lost to Australia in the summit clash.
According to a report by Sportskeeda, Rohit Sharma has a net worth of ₹218 crore, which he earned through match contracts and fees and various brand endorsements.
He is among the richest cricketers in India today. Rohit Sharma is bound to get an annual salary of ₹7 crore as he is a centrally contract player of A+ grade.
He receives ₹15 Lakh per Test match, ₹6 Lakh per ODI and 3 Lakh per T20Is.Rohit retired from T20 format in 2024 after winning the T20 World Cup.
Been a brand ambassador of various international brands like Adidas, Rohit is also the key face for brands like CEAT and Rasna. He also has worked with Oral-B India, Swiggy, Ixigo, Max Life Insurance, Hublot, New Era, Aristocrat by VIP and IIFL Finance among others.
The report further claims, Rohit charges around ₹5 crore per endorsement deal.
Rohit Sharma owns many properties in India, including a luxurious house in Mumbai's Worli area, which has an estimated at ₹30 crore.
