India captain Rohit Sharma met Devendra Fadnavis at the latter's home recently, the pictures of which were shared by the Maharashtra Chief Minister on social media. Rohit, under whom India won the T20 World Cup in 2024 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025, drew curtains to his Test career last week. The 38-year-old had already retired from T20Is last year.

Rohit's Test retirement came just before India's tour to England where they will play five Tests. Known as one of the best batters of this era, Rohit finished with 4301 Test runs in 68 Tests at an average of 40.57 and 12 Test centuries to his name.

Sharing pictures of their meet, CM Fadnavis, wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “It was great to welcome, meet and interact with Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma at my official residence Varsha. I extended my best wishes to him on his retirement from Test cricket and for continued success in the next chapter of his journey!”

Rohit Sharma made his Test debut in 2013 against West Indies with a hundred on the very game. However, for the next six years, the India opener didn't taste much success before he was elevated to the opening slot. His career in Test flourished after that.

Rohit's last game in Indi whites came in Melbourne during the fourth Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last year. With no Rohit, the Test captaincy might fall into Shubman Gill.

“Hello everyone I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format," Rohit wrote on his retirement post.

What's next for Rohit Sharma?

Rohit, who will play ODI cricket, is currently representing Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Mumbai Indians are currently placed third in the IPL 2025 points table.
