India vs England 1st ODI highlights: Half centuries from Shreyas Iyer (59), Shubman Gill (87) and Axar Patel (52) helped India beat England by four wickets and take a 1-0 series lead in Nagpur on Thursday. Chasing England's 248, India were in a spot of bother after losing openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma cheaply.
However, it was the 94-run stand between Iyer and Gill that resurrected the Indian innings. After Iyer was dismissed Gill forged a 108-run stand with Axar to take India closer to victory.
Earlier, Harshit Rana (3/53) starred on debut along with Ravindra Jadeja (3/26) as India bundled out England 248 in 47.4 overs. Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel bagged a wicket apiece.
Opting to bat first, England were off to a solid start with a 71-run stand for the opening stand. However, the run out of Phil Salt (43), triggered the English collapse as the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals.
Skipper Jos Buttler (51), Jacob Bethell (51) and Ben Duckett (32) tried to put some resistance, but the Indian bowlers were on top of their game. Virat Kohli missed the game due to a 'sore right knee'.
I knew in advances that I could get a promotion because of left-right combo. We tried to bowl spin in the powerplay but it was coming nicely onto the bat at that point. We just wanted to bowl in the right areas. Pitch had something in it for the bowlers. I felt they varied their pace well and got turn. If we had done that as well we could have got more turn. We were trying to take calculative assaults (in the partnership with Gill).
Ravindra Jadeja hits a couple of fours off Saqib Mahmood and India win the game by four wickets. India reach the target in 38.4 overs.
Saqib Mahmood comes to bowl and Shubman Gill dances down the track to hit a glorious cover drive to the boundary. OUTTT!!! In the next ball, Gill gives himself room and pulls a short delivery but Jos Buttler takes a brilliant diving catch to end his innings. Gill walks back for 87. IND 235/6 (36.2)

OUTTT!!! Yashasvi Jaiswal tries to defend a length delivery, but the ball kisses the bat and goes straight to Phil Salt. India lose their first wicket in the fifth over. IND 19/1 (4.3)
So far, the English bowlers have kept the Indian openers quiet. None of the Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have opened their arms in true sense. Cautious start by India. IND 7/0 (3)
We are ready for the chase. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal are padded up. Shubman Gill will come out to bat at No.3. Jofra Archer will open the bowling for England.
It was my dream. I prepared myself for this and put in the hard yards. I didn't hit the right lengths initially but got the rewards once I corrected them. They were looking to make some room (the batters), that's the reason I kept bowling on the stumps. It's a slightly two-paced pitch. Some of them are coming on nicely, some are stopping a bit. We bounced back in style. It's a good total and we can chase this down.
OUTTT!!! First wicket for Kuldeep Yadav and its the end of England innings. Saqib Mahmood dances down the track, goes for the big hoick, misses the ball completely and KL Rahul does the rest. England are all out for 248 in 47.4 overs.
