Virat Kohli closes gap with Shubman Gill in ICC ODI Rankings, Azmatullah Omarzai reigns supreme among all-rounders

Virat Kohli has risen one spot to be fourth in the latest ICC ODI Rankings for batters after his heroics with the bat in the Champions Trophy 2025.

Virat Kohli jumped one place to close the gap with fellow teammate Shubman Gill as the latest ICC ODI Rankings for batters were released on Wednesday. Virat Kohli, who scored an unbeaten hundred against Pakistan, was once again on the business when his 84 helped the Indian team beat Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Tuesday for a place in the final.

Not only Virat Kohli was named the Player of the Match against Australia, but also moved to fourth in the rankings. Shubman Gill and Pakistan Babar Azam were unmoved from their first and second positions while India captain Rohit Sharma dropped two places to fifth.

South Africa's Heinrich Klaasen is occupying the third spot. Shreyas Iyer jumped one place to eighth. Among the all-rounders, Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai dethroned fellow senior Mohammad Nabi to take the top spot after his superlative show in the Champions Trophy.

Azmatullah Omarzai, who will turn 25 later this month, impressed everyone in the Champions Trophy 2025 with a five-wicket haul against England and also notched up a fifty against Australia. Although Afghanistan took the exit route, they took England along, beating them in the group stages.

Mohammed Shami rises three spots to 11th

Among the bowlers, India's Mohammed Shami was rewarded for his stellar show in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The veteran India pacer rose three spots to 11th while South Africa’s Marco Jansen (up nine spots to 18th) and England’s Jofra Archer (up 13 spots to equal-19th) also made some gains.

New Zealand's Matt Henry, who is having a superb ICC Champions Trophy 2025, rose three spots and onto the podium of the bowling rankings. He is now in third, behind Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana (first) and South Africa tweaker Keshav Maharaj (second).
