The following update arrived after USA’s Kennedy Blades won her semifinal bout against top seed Kyrgyzstani wrestler Aiperi Medet Kyzy by 8-6.
There was a possibility that grappler Reetika Hooda might compete for bronze only if Kyrgyzstani wrestler Aiperi Medet Kyzy reaches final.
Earlier, Reetika proceeded to quarterfinal while facing Hungarian wrestler Bernadett Nagy match in the Round of 16 in the Women 76kg Freestyle category at Paris Olympics 2024. She won the match on technical superiority. She defeated Hungarian wrestler Bernadett Nagy 10-2 by technical superiority.
In the meantime, the ad hoc division of CAS Vinesh Phogat's appeal against disqualification from Olympic finals has extended time till 6.00 pm on 11 August 11.
"The ad hoc division of CAS has extended time till 6:00 p.m. on August 11, 2024, for the Sole Arbitrator Hon. Dr Annabelle Bennett in the Vinesh Phogat vs. United World Wrestling & the International Olympic Committee to issue a decision. The reasoned order will be issued at a later date," ANI quoted IOA as saying.
On August 9, Wrestler Aman Sehrawat defeated Puerto Rico's Darian Toi Cruz in Men’s freestyle 57kg category to bring India's 5th bronze medal. This is also the first wrestling medal for India in the Paris Olympics 2024. With this, India's medal tally rose to 6, including 5 bronze and one silver.
Also, the Indian athletics campaign ended as the men's 4x400 m relay race team fell just short of reaching the medal round and finished fifth and 11th overall in the qualification round on Friday.
Among other details, the Court of Arbitration for Sports on 9 August said that the decision on Vinesh Phogat's plea against her disqualification over weight issues is expected to be issued before the end of the Olympic Games.
Earlier on 8 August, Neeraj Chopra surpassed his gold-medal throw from Tokyo but missed out on a second consecutive top finish due to an exceptional performance by Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem. The Indian men's hockey team gave PR Sreejesh a storybook ending to his career. He retired with two consecutive Olympic medals after starting his international journey when India first failed to qualify for the Games.

On winning a silver medal in men's javelin throw at #ParisOlympics2024, Ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra says, "We all feel happy whenever we win a medal for the country...It's time to improve the game now...We will sit and discuss and improve the performance...India played well (at the Paris Olympics)....The competition was good (today)...but every athlete have their day, today was Arshad's day...I gave my best but some things need to be looked upon and worked upon...Our national anthem may not have been played today, but it will definitely be played somewhere else in the future..."
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweets, "A big congratulations to the exceptional athlete, Neeraj Chopra, for his amazing achievement in the Men’s javelin throw at Paris Olympics 2024 and winning the Silver Medal. He is an epitome of hard work, dedication and consistency. His success has delighted the entire nation."
Abhinav Bindra took to his official X handle and thanked Neeraj for inspiring every Indian to dream big. The former India shooter added that the 26-year-old's legacy grows stronger with every step.
