Earlier, Reetika proceeded to quarterfinal while facing Hungarian wrestler Bernadett Nagy match in the Round of 16 in the Women 76kg Freestyle category at Paris Olympics 2024. She won the match on technical superiority. She defeated Hungarian wrestler Bernadett Nagy 10-2 by technical superiority.
In the meantime, the ad hoc division of CAS Vinesh Phogat's appeal against disqualification from Olympic finals has extended time till 6.00 pm on 11 August 11.
"The ad hoc division of CAS has extended time till 6:00 p.m. on August 11, 2024, for the Sole Arbitrator Hon. Dr Annabelle Bennett in the Vinesh Phogat vs. United World Wrestling & the International Olympic Committee to issue a decision. The reasoned order will be issued at a later date," ANI quoted IOA as saying.
On August 9, Wrestler Aman Sehrawat defeated Puerto Rico's Darian Toi Cruz in Men’s freestyle 57kg category to bring India's 5th bronze medal. This is also the first wrestling medal for India in the Paris Olympics 2024. With this, India's medal tally rose to 6, including 5 bronze and one silver.
Also, the Indian athletics campaign ended as the men's 4x400 m relay race team fell just short of reaching the medal round and finished fifth and 11th overall in the qualification round on Friday.
Among other details, the Court of Arbitration for Sports on 9 August said that the decision on Vinesh Phogat's plea against her disqualification over weight issues is expected to be issued before the end of the Olympic Games.
Earlier on 8 August, Neeraj Chopra surpassed his gold-medal throw from Tokyo but missed out on a second consecutive top finish due to an exceptional performance by Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem. The Indian men's hockey team gave PR Sreejesh a storybook ending to his career. He retired with two consecutive Olympic medals after starting his international journey when India first failed to qualify for the Games.

India's Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar faced a tough third round in the women's golf event at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 on Friday.
The two Indian women's golfers were tied for 14th place (T14) after the second round but struggled to maintain their momentum in the third. Aditi dropped 26 places to be placed at T40 while Diksha slipped further down the order to T42.
Competing at the Golf National, Aditi, who was T13 on the opening day, carded a seven-over 79. India's top-ranked women's golfer, Aditi recorded seven bogies, a double bogey on the seventh hole, and managed just two birdies, as per Olympic.com.
Diksha Dagar, who had been riding high in seventh place after the opening day, carded a disastrous 8-over 80 in the third round. The 2021 Deaflympics gold medallist struggled to find her rhythm and hit five bogies and a triple bogey on the 15th hole after failing to card a single birdie.
Grappler Reetika Hooda is India's final hope to get another wrestling medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. As the sixth and final wrestler representing India, Hooda will face Hungary's Bernadett Nagy in her opening round. Nagy has previously won two bronze medals at the European Championships.
Reetika Hooda natural body weight is around 74-75 kg. So, it was never a great struggle to bring it to 72, not even now. Her body type is such that weight drops quickly.
But the real struggle is to take the weight to 78kg.
"I just munch, train, munch, train and repeat. Of course, it's healthy protein intake. I have a different struggle," Hooda told PTI in an interview.
"I have 3 meals in my schedule and I have to eat in between as well. Before sleeping also, I take something. My nutritionist Mitali decides what I need to eat and mother ensures that I have that.
"I had to start eating chicken for protein intake. It was difficult to develop a taste for that. My mother tried a lot of combinations and now I have settled for a semi-gravy type chicken. No one eats chicken in my family," she added
The women's golf event at Paris 2024 features 60 golfers, who will compete over four days in four rounds. Each round consists of 18 holes.
At the top of the leaderboard, Switzerland's Morgane Metraux, who shattered the Olympic record with an eight-under 28 on the front nine on Thursday, is tied for the lead after carding a one-under 71.
New Zealand's Lydia Ko, who was third on Thursday, climbed to share the top spot after a solid four-under 68.
USA's Rose Zhang fired a five-under 67 to join Japan's Miyu Yamashita, who also scored a four-under 68, in the T3 spot.

Senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday congratulated wrestler Aman Sehrawat for securing a bronze medal in wrestling at the ongoing Paris Olympics.
Gehlot took to social media X and wrote, "Wrestler. Mr. Aman Sehrawat has made us all proud by winning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. The life of Shri Aman Sehrawat has been full of struggle and he has achieved this position by overcoming many challenges. I congratulate and wish Mr Aman Sehrawat for his victory."
After his success at the ongoing Paris Olympics, Aman Sehrawat's uncle, Sudhir, expressed that the Indian wrestler's bronze medal win at the Summer Games was a tribute to his late parents.
Making his Olympic debut, Sehrawat secured the bronze medal with a 13-5 victory over Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz on Friday, marking India's first wrestling medal at the Paris 2024 Games.
Speaking to ANI, Sudhir reflected on Aman's challenging journey, noting that the wrestler has faced significant struggles after losing his parents at the age of 10. He expressed hope that the 21-year-old would win a gold medal in future Olympic Games.
"He missed the gold medal by a little but he has won the bronze medal for the country. We just pray that he wins the gold medal next time... Aman's life has been full of struggle. He lost his parents at the age of 10, and he has paid tribute to his parents by winning a bronze medal today," Sudhir said.
Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra lauded Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat for winning the bronze medal in the 57 kg freestyle wrestling event at the Paris Olympics and called it a "huge achievement".
"Congratulations Aman ! Your determination on the mat, your focus, and the way you carry yourself with humility and grace--these are the qualities that make a true champion. Securing bronze in Paris is a huge achievement, but more than that, it's a reflection of your relentless pursuit of excellence. I'm incredibly proud of you, and I know you've made the entire nation proud too. Keep shining, champ," Abhinav Bindra wrote on X.
After Aman Sehrawat's bronze medal win at the Paris Olympics, National Wrestling Coach Jagmander Singh said that they were expecting a gold but had to settle for third place. "The performance was good. We were expecting gold but we had to settle for the bronze. But I promise in the coming time we will win gold medals for the country... Aman has promised that he will win gold in the future...," Jagmander Singh said.

Speaking to ANI, Sanjay Singh said that the youngster gave a good performance in the bronze medal match. He also hoped that Aman would win the gold medal in the Olympics in the future.

Paris Olympics 2024 LIVE: The 21-year-old Aman Sehrawat is a world-class wrestler who shone under the guidance of Indian Olympic medalists. He emerging from Delhi’s famous Chhatrasal Stadium–the Akhada.
Born in Haryana’s Jhajjar district on July 16, 2003, Aman was raised by his grandfather, as he lost his parents when he was 11 years old.
After he expressed interest in mud wrestling at an early age, he was admitted to the Chhatrasal Stadium. He considers Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar as his childhood hero and icon.
Aman won the National Championships in 2021. A year later, he became the first Indian to win gold at the U-23 World Championships.
He won gold in the Asian Championships in Astana in 2023 and won bronze in the Hangzhou Asian Games. He became the only male Indian wrestler during the World Olympic Qualifiers to win Paris 2024 quota. He was later preferred over Tokyo 2020 silver medalist Ravi Dahiya in the 57kg category.
