Paris Olympics 2024: Arshad Nadeem made history by winning Pakistan's first gold medal at the Paris Olympics. He achieved this in the javelin throw with a record-setting throw of 92.97 meters, surpassing the previous Olympic record held by Denmark's Andreas Thorkildsen from the 2008 Beijing Games.

Grenada's Anderson Peters took home the bronze with a throw of 88.54 meters. This victory marked Pakistan's first gold medal since their hockey team won in the 1984 Los Angeles Games.

Nadeem had won a silver medal at the World Championship last year and also a gold in the Commonwealth Games 2022 with a 90.18m throw. Earlier on Tuesday, he qualified for the finals with a throw of 86.59m, bested by Chopra who produced a massive throw off 89.34 to qualify first.

The well-documented rivalry and friendship between Chopra and Nadeem have been notable. During the last Tokyo Olympics, Chopra secured a gold medal for India, while Nadeem ended up fifth in the final standings.

A few months ago, when Arshad requested a new javelin from the authorities for his training, Chopra quickly backed Nadeem's appeal on social media.

Despite his career being hit by elbow, knee and back problems and burdened by the lack of top facilities and equipment available to athletes of other countries, Nadeem has already achieved a lot by getting the Pakistani people to closely follow his feats instead of cricket. 

Meanwhile, India's ace Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra earned a silver medal at the Paris Olympics. He won silver with a best throw of 89.45 meters at the Paris Olympics. His best throw came on his second attempt. Chopra said that the competition was tough and that every athlete has their day, adding, "Today was Arshad's day. I gave my best, but some things need to be addressed and worked on," Chopra told ANI.
