Early leads amid the ongoing counting of votes in the Odisha Assembly show that the BJP is leading with 57 seats, while Chief Minister Naveen Biju Janata Dal is trailing with 42 segments. Meanwhile, the Congress is leading with 10 seats against the CPI(M) and the JMM's 1 each.
As of 10 am, BJP has made significant gains in Odisha, leading on 58 seats. The ruling BJD is trailing with leads on just 3 seats, while Congress holds third place with leads on 13 seats.
BJP takes lead on 48 seats, BJD on 28 in Odisha
BJP's Suresh Pujari has taken an early lead in the Brajarajnagar constituency. This seat, held by the BJD since 2019, was also retained by them in the 2022 bypoll.
Initial trends from the postal ballot vote counts indicate that the BJP-TDP alliance is leading in one seat in the Andhra Pradesh Lok Sabha elections.
"We are fully prepared to conduct the counting tomorrow," says Odisha Chief Electoral Officer Nikunja Bihari Dhal. "The counting will take place in all the districts and sub-divisional headquarters, covering 70 locations. In one of these locations, only the postal ballot will be counted. In the remaining 69 locations, both EVMs and postal ballots will be counted. We have to count more than 76,000 EVMs. The ECI has appointed additional counting observers, along with the 42 general observers appointed earlier, to oversee the process."

In the 2019 Assembly election in Odisha, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) maintained its stronghold, continuing its rule in the state. Out of 147 seats, the BJD secured a commanding 112 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) followed with 23 seats, while the Congress managed to win only nine seats.
Both the BJD and Congress experienced a decline in their seat counts compared to the 2014 elections. The BJD lost five seats from its previous tally, and Congress saw a reduction of seven seats. Conversely, the BJP made significant gains, increasing its seat count from 10 to 23.
