Cannes 2023: Vijay Varma expresses gratitude for ‘thunderous response to Dahaad’

Actor Vijay Varma appeared at Cannes Film Festival after a decade. TV Show Dahaad actor clarified that he attended the start-studded global film festival in 2013.

Several media reports said that Varma was making his debut at Cannes this year.

"Not my first time. The first time was in 2013 with my film Monsoon Shootout. I’m going after a decade," Varma tweeted.

He also clarified that he was only making things clear, and not pointing fingers at the publication that labeled his Cannes visit this year as his debut.

Vijay Varma is among the scores of Indian actors who will be attending the Cannes Film Festival 2023 between 16-27 May.

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan led the Indian delegation at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The shirt that Murugan dressed in on the red carpet got the national flag on its left side and a G20 logo on the right. He paired it with 'Veshti' to represent his culture at the global level.

Former India spinner Anil Kumble was also spotted at Cannes. On Tuesday, he took to Instagram and shared a picture with his wife Chetana Kumble from the French Riviera.

In the image, Anil and his wife are seen twinning in black. The cricketer opted for a black velvet suit while Chetana draped a black saree.

Each May, all eyes in the film industry are on the Festival de Cannes. The organisation puts its profile and platform to work in giving the film the space to shine, ensuring a huge diversity of voices, sensibilities, and talents are showcased.

In 1939, the Cannes Festival was born. It is the world’s most prestigious film gathering.

This year four Indian films have made it to the official selection at Cannes Film Festival. Kanu Behl's 'Agra', Anurag Kashyap's 'Kennedy', and Manipuri film 'Ishanhou', and many Indian films are slotted for being screened in Marche du Films.

This year's special focus will be on India's culture and heritage at the India Pavilion. The theme for this year's Pavilion is based on the Goddess of knowledge, Saraswati. It has been designed by the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad with the theme - 'Showcasing India's Creative Economy' to the global community.
