Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah has emerged as the primary contender for the role of Karnataka Chief Minister, with supporters erupting into celebration ahead of an official announcement. Meanwhile his ‘rival’ DK Shivakumar has reportedly been offered the Deputy CM post with six portfolios. The offer is yet to be accepted and no official announcement has come from the Congress so far.
Sources told Hindustan Times that the Karnataka Congress president had been offered six crucial departments. The swearing in ceremony for the new CM will reportedly be held on Thursday. However it it not clear when the other members of the Cabinet will take oath.
Meanwhile, supporters of Siddaramaiah have already begun celebrating his potential elevation. Even as suspense over the Karnataka CM race continues, many were seen pouring milk on his poster and chanting slogans outside his residence in Bengaluru. Visuals from the southern state showers others dancing and bursting firecrackers ahead of the decision.
Senior Congress leaders have however denied the claim.
“Deliberations on the Karnataka CM are still on, no decision has been taken. Don't resort to speculation or planted news... A decision will be announced today or tomorrow and the cabinet will be in place within 72 hours,” said Randeep Singh Surjewala.
