Uttar Pradesh accident: Five people lost their lives, and fifteen people were injured after a double-decker bus from Delhi to Azamgarh collided with a truck on Yamuna Expressway in Aligarh on Wednesday, reported ANI.
The bus was heading towards Azamgarh and collided with a truck while overtaking the vehicle late Wednesday, reported the news agency citing CO Khair Varun Kumar. The significantly low visibility due to fog has increased the probability of accidents on the route.
PTI reported that the accident happened on the intervening nights of Wednesday and Thursday when the vehicles were passing through the Tappal area of Aligarh.
"Police sent the injured to the hospital for treatment. The bodies of five deceased were sent for post-mortem," Aligarh Police said in a brief statement on X.
“On receiving information about an accident between a bus and a truck last night in Thana Tappal area, the police immediately reached the spot and carried out relief and rescue operations. 15 injured were admitted to the hospital for treatment. The bodies of 05 dead were sent to the mortuary for post-mortem. Legal proceedings were initiated. The traffic system is smooth. There is peace at the spot. Condolences were expressed on the tragic incident. A byte was given by the Area Officer Khair in this regard,” read another post by Aligarh Police on X.
The privately operated double-decker bus collided with a truck which was carrying glass items. The police have sent the dead bodies of the deceased passengers for post-mortem and also seized the truck involved in the accident.
Soon after the accident, the police arrived on the spot and began the rescue and relief operations. Injured passengers were admitted to a nearby hospital and are undergoing treatment.
Police said legal proceedings were initiated in the case and normal traffic was resumed on the Yamuna Expressway carriageway where the accident took place.
