As many as three persons were killed after a landslide-caused accident took place in Chidwasa on the Kedarnath Yatra route on Sunday morning, said the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) team who reached the spot to evacuate eight injured.
The official stated that three bodies were handed over to the district police and the injured persons have been shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. The devotees were going from Gaurikund to visit Kedarnath Dham.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the accident and people who lost their lives. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Dhami wrote, “The news of some pilgrims getting injured due to debris and heavy stones falling from the hill near the Kedarnath Yatra route is very sad.”
“Relief and rescue work is going on at the site of the accident, I am constantly in touch with the officials in this regard. I have given instructions to provide better treatment to the people injured in the accident immediately,” he added.
Rudraprayag District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said the accident happened at around 7:30 am near the Chirbasa area on the Gaurikund-Kedarnath trekking route. When Debris and heavy stones started falling down from the hill, PTI reported.
