Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday amid escalating protests and arrived at the Hindon Air Base near New Delhi aboard a C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh newspaper Prothom Alo reported that Awami League's Dhaka district office was set on fire by the agitators. The agitators started the fire around 4 pm on Monday.
The agitators also set on fire Awami League president Sheikh Hasina's office at 3/A Dhanmondi in Dhaka. Protesters were seen chanting slogans and celebrating the news of Sheikh Hasina's resignation.
The protests in Bangladesh, primarily led by students, initially called for abolishing a quota system for government jobs but escalated into a broader uprising against Prime Minister Hasina and her ruling Awami League party. On Sunday, clashes in Dhaka resulted in at least 95 deaths, including 14 police officers, and left hundreds more injured, according to local media outlet Prothom Alo.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday told an all-party meeting that India has assured help to former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who arrived here on Monday evening, and given her time to decide the future course of action, sources told PTI.
“Briefing political party leaders in Parliament House, Jaishankar said India has spoken to the Bangladesh Army Chief to ensure the safety of over 10,000 Indian students in that country," the sources said.
Replying to questions from various leaders, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, the minister did not rule out the role of foreign governments in the unrest in the country but emphasised that the situation was too fluid, and the government has been keeping a watch on the evolving situation, they said. The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres continues to follow developments in Bangladesh closely and deplored the loss of lives in the country during the protests.
He urged calm and restraint by all sides and emphasised the importance of a peaceful, orderly and democratic transition.
"The Secretary-General deplores the further loss of life during protests in Bangladesh over the weekend. He continues to closely follow developments in the country, including the Chief of Army Staff's announcement regarding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and plans for the formation of an Interim Government," a statement from his office said. The Eastern Railway said services of the Kolkata-Dhaka-Kolkata Maitree Express will remain cancelled on Wednesday due to the ongoing turmoil in Bangladesh.
Citing a message from Bangladesh Railways, the ER said on Tuesday the services of Maitree Express, which has not been operational since July 19, will not resume services on Wednesday. (PTI)

The same Islamists who threw her out of Bangladesh have forced Sheikh Hasina to flee, says author Taslima Nasreen, exiled from the country in the 1990s following protests over her book "Lajja".
On Monday, Hasina resigned and fled the country amid massive public anger over her government’s controversial quota system reserving 30 per cent jobs for families of veterans who fought the 1971 liberation war. More than 400 people have been killed in the protests.
Finding Hasina's situation ironic, Nasreen said in a post on X, "Hasina in order to please Islamists threw me out of my country in 1999 after I entered Bangladesh to see my mother in her deathbed and never allowed me to enter the country again. The same Islamists have been in the student movement who forced Hasina to leave the country today."
Nasreen has been living in exile since 1994 after she faced criticism from Islamist fundamentalists for her writings on communalism and women's equality in Bangladesh. (PTI)
Several Bangladesh nationals, who had come to India for some work and were stuck here, are returning to their country through the Jalpaiguri border, West Bengal.
"I had come to meet my business partner in Siliguri and returning to my country today. The situation in now better in Bangladesh than what it was earlier, that is why I am returning back. Coming days will be better," says a Bangladeshi national Md Saibul Islam.
"It is a very sensitive issue. It is very sad that such an incident has happened in Bangladesh. We had a friendly government; we have a business of about ₹13 billion dollar, most of which is in export. The developments (in Bangladesh) are not right for India. The government should make its strategy is a new way so that Indian interests are not harmed. The government should arrange for the safety of Indian companies and minorities there," Congress MP Rajeev Shukla
Congress MP Kiran Kumar Chamala on Tuesday said that the volatile situation in Bangladesh is a lesson for all democratic countries and that the government must make all the decisions for the people.
"The situation in Bangladesh serves as a nice example because it is our neighbouring country which is going through such a phase. In democracy, we must be careful. We should never have overconfidence. The reservation and related things were not properly discussed and things got provoked and suddenly after so many years democracy derailed in Bangladesh. We must learn from such things. Yesterday our party members asked for a discussion in the parliament but the ruling does not like to discuss on that. Today, I think they are discussing outside. This is a lesson for any democratic country where situations like this must be avoided and make sure that any decision the government made is for the people," said the Congress MP. (ANI)
Furthermore, LoP in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi raised concerns about the future of our foreign policy, particularly in light of the recent events in Bangladesh. “After being briefed by the government, Rahul Gandhi expressed his support for the measures taken in the national interest. He also questioned whether foreign forces were involved in the incident. He said the status of minorities there remains a significant concern, with reports of attacks on their properties," sources told ANI.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday informed the lower house of Parliament that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will make a statement on the situation in Bangladesh.
Birla informed the House after Question Hour concluded that Jaishankar will make a suo moto statement at 3.30 pm in Lok Sabha.

A key organizer of Bangladesh's student protests said Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus was their choice as head of an interim government a day after longtime Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned.
The country’s figurehead president and the military chief said Monday that an interim government would be formed soon.
Nahid Islam, the organizer, in a video post in social media said the student protest leaders have already talked with Yunus, who consented to take over considering the present situation of the country. Yunus faced a number of corruption accusations and was put on trial during Hasina’s rule. He received the Nobel in 2006 after he pioneered microlending, and he said the corruption charges against him were motivated by vengeance. (AP)

Garment factories in Bangladesh will remain closed on Tuesday, an official of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association said, a day after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country.
