Faf du Plessis, the veteran batter from South Africa, confirmed his availability for the rest of Indian Premier League 2025.
Faf du Plessis is having a quiet season by his own lofty standards. The senior batter has scored 168 runs from 6 innings. He also missed a few games due to fitness issues.
While he has scored two half centuries, his returns are less than optimal for a team chasing their maiden IPL title. He crossed 400 runs in each of the previous five seasons.
Delhi Capitals are one of the hardest hit teams in terms of overseas players availability. Australian pacer Mitchell Starc confirmed his withdrawal from the remainder of the season. South African batter Tristan Stubbs will leave the side at the end of the league stages.
Bangladesh's left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman, who was roped in as Fraser-McGurk's replacement, got a non-objection certificate (NOC) to participate in the league from May 18-24. He too will leave the side at the end of the group stages.
Donovan Ferreira, another South African in the DC squad, isn't joining the squad either.
Afghanistan batter Sediqullah Atal and Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera are the other overseas options in the squad.
Delhi Capitals have taken 13 points from 11 matches. Their remaining games are against the teams in the top four.
Gujarat Titans (1st in the table) - May 18, Delhi
Mumbai Indians (4th in the table) - May 21, Mumbai
Punjab Kings (3rd in the table) - May 24, Jaipur
Delhi Capitals have to win at least two games to be assured of a spot in the playoffs. If Delhi Capitals lose to Gujarat Titans on Sunday, their game against Mumbai Indians will be a virtual knockout.
