As millions flock to Bluesky amid user exodus from X, the platform faces potential troubles. Downdetector reported significant access issues on November 14 and 15, with outage reports peaking at 3:47 AM, though confirmation from the company is pending.

Bluesky is finally having its moment as millions of users flock on the platform as its biggest rival X (formerly Twitter), seees an increasing exodus from users post Donald Trump's win. However, with the increased attention, it seems that there are some troubles brewing for the platform as well.

Outage tracking website downdetector reported that thousands of users were having trouble in accessing the platform on November 14 and 15. While the company is yet to officially confirm the outage, it seems the worst may be already over as Downdetector data shows outage reports peaking at 3:47am.

What is Bluesky?

Bluesky is a decentralized social network that gained fame after being backed by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey. However, Dorsey called it quits with the company earlier this year stating that he was making some of the same mistakes that he did with Twitter.

Bluesky along with Meta's Threads is amongst the handful of platforms that have gained traction after the growing disenchantment with Twitter, ever since Elon Musk took over the platform.

Bluesky has a similar user interface to X/Twitter with a discover menu but the ‘Feeds’ option allows users to curate the algorithm towards their interest areas. The company has seen over 2.5 million new users in the last week and has crossed over 16 million lifetime users mark.

However, Bluesky still continues to fall far behind either X or Threads. According to sensor tower data quoted by Reuters, Threads has over 252 million monthly active users while X has around 317 million.

Why are people leaving X?

X recently brought in changes to its terms of services policy which states that users agree that their content on the platform will now be used to train the artificial intlligence models like Grok. Moreover, any disputes with the company can only be brought exclusively in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas or state courts located in Tarrant County, Texas, United States.

Meanwhile, there have also been concerns about Musk's support for Donald Trump in the US Presidential elections and the platform's supposed inability to control misinformation. Over 1,15,000 US users have deactivated X after  the results of 2024 US Elections were announced, as per SimilarWeb data quoted by Reuters.

Among the several prominent personalities and brands have decided go leave the platform including Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Lemon, Elton John, Mia Farrow, Whoopi Goldberg and british publication The Guardia
